about

This is a compilation of all three major releases from my time as a highschool student, completely remixed and remastered. Some files were lost in the hard drive corruption of May 2018, and as such, not all were able to see fully realized reworks. As it stands, 'achievement' was developed entirely within a demo version of FL Studio 12, so nothing remains of its raw data.

'achievement,' my first official release, was recorded and released between the ages of 14 and 15. I'd been living with depression for six years at that point, and throughout the majority of its development, was groomed and stalked by a pedophile online. All tracks on this release were produced in a single session save for 'love song,' as it was developed on a Nintendo Gameboy and could actually be saved. 'love song' still exists in a .lsdsng file as a copy. Its original physical instance was later lost in the cartridge corruption that took out all of Pink Dystopia's LSDJ files, sometime in mid-late 2018. This was not a good year for my hardware.

'HOW I LEARNED TO STOP WORRYING AND EXTERNALIZE EVERYTHING' was my sophomore release, and is my most sought after work to date. Following my experiences in the Summer and Fall of 2015, I rejected the notion that I was a victim of anything, and allowed a deep seated rage to consume me. Utilizing a full copy of FL Studio I had acquired shortly before the release of 'achievement,' I quickly got to work putting my negative emotions into something concrete. 'HILTSWAEE' was developed first and foremost as a means of catharsis, and I have since divorced myself from the emotions which inspired its genesis. I no longer feel such passionate hatred toward the individual who abused me. Only a cold, silent apathy. In the Fall of 2016, I woke up as a different person with a renewed sense of self following an attempt on my life, and began dreaming of futures only people of the past could conceive.

In my Junior year of highschool, I set my sights upon building narrative experiences in my work, and 'Confetti Cannon' was the first of its kind to be completed for the album which would become 'Pink Dystopia.' Eight of the twelve tracks were produced from January to June in 2018, some of which would ultimately be completely recreated following my hard drive's corruption in May. This delayed the album's release by a month, though it was a month spent making something better than that which had been lost. A thirteenth track was originally planned, intended for two instances of LSDJ only, which was ultimately cut from the final release due to said time constraints. It would have been in 13/16 time, and somewhere between twelve to fifteen minutes in length. Nothing remains.

Following 'Pink Dystopia's' release, I dove headfirst into writing up a fully realized synthetic opera, complete with sheet music for both instrumentalists and vocalists, stage direction, and an LSDJ accompaniment. This, ultimately, proved a feat far beyond my abilities at the time, and will remain a work in progress for years to come. In the mean time, I have continued to produce works based in the same narrative universe as that of 'Pink Dystopia,' and one might anticipate a release of select works before the end of the year.

I've always striven to create art that the world has never borne witness to before, and in doing so, to challenge myself as much as possible in my work. I create for myself, first and foremost, and share when I feel my art is ready to be shared. It takes me exactly wherever it needs to be, I'm merely the vessel by which it channels itself. It's taught me a lot in the past six years, both about myself and about the craft I continue to hone, and one can only speculate where it will take me in the next six years, or ten, twenty. I intend to continue bringing the world new and exciting means of expression, be they emotionally charged or contemplative to the core, for as long as I am allowed.

Thank you for your time,
Melvin Dovinté ♡
